Widener-Bega Scholarship

Posted by: | Posted on: January 12, 2016

We are now accepting applications for our 2016 Widener-Bega Scholarship.  We encourage all eligible students to apply.

The Widener-Bega scholarships were created by Timber Ridge PTA President Beth Bega and Timber Ridge Principal Mary Kay Widener as a way to honor Timber Ridge graduates who excelled throughout their school careers by serving as role models of the Timber Ridge values of Learning, Caring and Sharing.  These are merit scholarships, and are not based on financial need.  All funds are made payable directly to the student’s college and not to them personally.

For 2016, the scholarship award is a one-time grant of $500.

Up to three scholarships will be awarded to Timber Ridge graduates: two to expected graduates of Pope or Walton High Schools, and one to a special education student from Pope or Walton.  Students who live in the Pope or Walton districts but attend a Cobb County magnet, charter, or private  high school are also eligible.

Please click this link for the scholarship application and instructions.  The deadline for the application to be received at the Timber Ridge Elementary School office is Tuesday, April 12, 2016.

Thanks in advance for your support in this effort. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Grants and Scholarship Committee at timberridgescholarship@gmail.com.

Congratulations Mrs. Dunford!

On August 27, the Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education (AFAEE) recognized Alison Dunford as an Excellent Educator!

Our very own fifth-grade teacher, Mrs. Dunford, is a true leader at Timber Ridge.  Mrs. Dunford is part of the Green School initiative and was integral to making the outdoor learning environments a reality. AFAEE granted $7500 to Mrs. Dunford to spend on a school project of her choice. Much of this money will be used for professional development and renovating Andy’s Garden.  Andy’s Garden and  Wolfie’s Outdoor Classroom are two outdoor learning spaces at Timber Ridge. Goodbye Mosquitos!

The Timber Ridge PTA would like to thank Mosquito Authority of North Atlanta for their generous in-kind donation.  They kept Wolfie’s Outdoor Classroom mosquito free for our children!  They applied several treatments and kept those pesky mosquitos away all year free of charge!

Timber Ridge is excited to announce that Mosquito Authority has offered one free, no-obligation mosquito treatment for each Timber Ridge family! To take advantage of this exciting offer, please download the information here.
